Is Home Security Something That You Should Do Yourself?
There is no denying that times have started to become dire in the world. With the economy in the toilet, terrorists promising future attacks and diseases like the swine flu infecting millions, many people are starting to improve their home security systems to protect themselves from all of the existing threats.
The problem, however, is that many of these home alarm systems and other security products available on the market today are quite expensive, putting a bit of a dent in the wallet. Although there is no real way to put a price on the protection of your loved ones and valuables, people are starting to think twice about investing their savings into guarding their home. It is hard to justify the steep prices, especially if someone has never experienced a robbery or a break in firsthand. Plus, with market forecasts indicating that the economy is not any closer to recovering, there is no telling how much longer this financial slump will last.
Because of these situations, many people have started looking towards cheaper alternatives and do-it-yourself installations in order to cut corners and save a buck or two. Granted, a home alarm is not necessarily the most complicated invention to ever hit the consumer market, but homeowners should still be very cautious when self-installing any type of security system into their home. Sure, all do-it-yourself alarm packages come with easy to mount parts and self-explanatory instructions, but the issue is more of a “should you do it” dilemma instead of a “could you do it” one. Besides, anyone can easily screw up the installation, resulting in not only a possible break in but also in money wasted trying to utilize the cheaper alternative.
The best tactics for ensuring home security while facing money worries is to focus on the little things, the things that are easily controllable. For starters, check up on all of the things that the home already has which provide protection. Make sure that smoke detectors or fire alarms are functional with charged batteries as well as see if weaknesses exist in front door and window locks. If they are present, then it is essential that they be replaced in order to enhance security. Any holes in screens should also be patched up.
If your house has outside lamps or walkway lights, make sure that all of the bulbs are fresh and that the timers work. Double check the sprinkler system as well, since a wet lawn in the middle of the night will more than likely prevent a burglar from trying to access the house, since wet shoes equal squeaky, noisy steps.
Another economical tip is to join the neighborhood watch, or start one up if your area does not have one. Many police offices have the kits needed to get one going and the startup costs are almost nonexistent. All that is required is self-motivation, a bit of determination and a good sales speech, since you will more than likely have to call or knock on the doors of all your neighbors in order to get them to participate. This should not be a problem, however, because security is always at the top of every homeowners mind.
There is no denying that times are hard with regards to the financial aspects of life. Although a home alarm is the number one defender of a house, it can be a little pricey. By following a few of these tips and thinking economically, it will be possible to ensure the safety of your loved ones and valuables without spending a fortune. Besides, the money saved could eventually be put towards a new alarm, or at least an alarm company sign that can be put in the front lawn, which has been statistically proven to deter thieves.

Questions & Answers about Police Officer Patch
Drink Driving?
Three blokes are driving around, drinking beers and having a laugh when the driver looks in the mirror and sees the flashing lights of a police car telling him to pull over.
The other two are really worried. "What are we going to do with our beers? We're in trouble!"
"No," the driver says, "it's OK, just pull the label off your bottle and stick them on your foreheads, and the bloke pulls over.
The police officer then walks up and says, "You lads were swerving all around the road back there. Have you been drinking?"
"Oh, no, officer," says the driver, pointing to his forehead, "We're trying to give up, so we're on the patch."
sorry dude not this time
